Welcome to our Safeguarding information

It is the policy of The Scout Association to safeguard the welfare of all members by protecting them from neglect and from physical, sexual and emotional harm.
We are committed to:
  • Taking the interests and well-being of young people into account, in all our considerations and activities.
  • Respecting the rights, wishes and feelings of the young people with whom we work.
  • Taking all reasonable practicable steps to protect them from neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
  • Promoting the welfare of young people and their protection within a position of trust.

All adults in Scouting, including members of the Scout Network who wish to work with young people, are responsible for putting this policy into practice at all times.

Young people thrive in safe surroundings. We’re committed to ensuring that Scouting in Gloucestershire is both enjoyable and safe for everyone who takes part, along with providing parents/carers with peace of mind.

Appointing the leaders who work with young people

All volunteers who help to run our activities give their time freely to help young people enjoy Scouting in Gloucestershire. Leaders are interviewed locally and asked to provide references. Everyone working with young people in Scouting is asked to undertake a Criminal Record Check, sometimes known as a ‘police check’. See Safe & Sound leaflet for parents.

To support all members with ensuring we live out our responsibility we follow the code of conduct in our Yellow Card ”Young People First”. To see the contents of the Yellow Card, click the image on the right.
What to do if you have concerns
If you are unhappy with anything relating to your child’s time in Scouting, you should raise it with your child’s leader first of all, or with the Group Scout Leader.
To report an immediate concern, contact our Safeguarding team on 0345 300 1818

Safeguarding training

Safeguarding training is required by all those who support and work with young people. If you are an adult volunteer in Gloucestershire and want to know more about this training please click “Safeguarding training”.

The Safeguarding training team is co-ordinated by our Safeguarding Awareness co-ordinator. You can find the dates for Safeguarding training sessions near you on the Adult Training Calendar.

Online safety (Think U Know)

Today’s fast growing technological world brings new risks for young people online. We can offer training to young people of all ages in Scouting to help them stay safe. If you would like to know more about ThinkUKnow and how we can lead a session with your section, please click on the button.
