Achieving your King's Scout Award in Gloucestershire

  The King’s Scout Award

A chat over dinner between Baden-Powell and King Edward VII led to the creation of the King’s Scout award in 1909. It has run ever since, changing to the Queen’s Scout award in 1952, and back to the King’s Scout Award in 2023, It is the highest award a Scout can achieve.

The royal link continues – achieve the King’s Scout Award and you will be invited to the annual celebration at Windsor Castle.

Here are the latest recipients at this year’s Windsor Parade – Alex Hawkins, Ruby Gardner and Alexandra Jenkins.

Achieving your King’s Scout Award

There are four main areas; Membership, Nights away, International, community and values activities, and Challenges.

Don’t expect it to be easy, as it is scouting’s biggest challenge for youth members. You can work towards the award between 16 and 25 years of age, in explorer scouts and/or in network scouts.

The Challenges can be signed off if you hold the Gold DofE award. To complete the award, you do a presentation to an authorised signatory* before sign-off.
