Save the date of 2nd February 2025 to start the process!
Gloucestershire Scouts are looking for a large number of adults to take on roles and help plan, develop and deliver our upcoming international trips. (*If you’re currently in Network but also willing to take on an adult role, then read on!)
We would really like to expand the International opportunities we can offer as a County, as we usually have more applicants than places for International trips.
In late Spring 2025 we will be looking start appointing leaders to the four main events below, and your attendance at the International Development day being held from 1-5pm on Sunday 2nd February 2025 (location TBC) is the first step on the journey**
As well as the World Scout Jamboree and the Haarlem Jamborette, which we have organised at County level for some years, we would like to be able to offer young people in Gloucestershire trips to other International camps and Scout Centres, plus Explorer Belt Expeditions.
Not all roles require any prior international or Scout/Explorer specific experience; just a willingness to get involved and help facilitate some outstanding opportunities abroad for the County’s Scouts and Explorers.
Many of these events may seem a long way off at this point, but to make these opportunities accessible for most young people they need to be able to start budgeting and fund-raising well over a year in advance, which means starting the planning process in early 2025 for 2027 trips.
We can’t commit to running all these events unless we are sure there are enough leaders willing to come forward and support them. That is why we are asking you to join us in February, hear what opportunities are available, and give us an indication of whether you can help us deliver them.
We already have a WSJ Lead (Matt Evans) and are now looking for up to four assistant leaders, depending on our unit allocation. There may also be opportunities to support the unit with some of the fundraising and admin without actually attending the event. Such a role will give you some of the excitement of a Jamboree Journey without the cost.
We’d like to take two units, one for Explorers and one for the Scout section (sharing resources/transport where possible) This is to try and increase the opportunities available for the Scout section.
We will need two team leaders and a number of supporting adults.
Based on previous interest, this could be up to 12 leaders in total.
Again, we’d like to take an Explorer and a Scout unit. We are timing this event so that all Scouts and Explorers in Gloucestershire who want to will have an opportunity to travel abroad in 2027, as we have been oversubscribed for places on WSJ and Haarlem previously.
We will need two team leaders and a number of supporting adults. This trip would be very interested to talk to leaders with Watersport, or Mountain Terrain Permits to increase the activities that we can run.
We have a team manager for the Gloucestershire Scouts – we will need several more adults to join the in country support team and be part of the UK based training. This is building on the successful joint expeditions that have run in previous years.
The 2026 joint venture will aim to provide us with enough experienced leaders to run one or more independent Gloucestershire Explorer Belt expeditions in 2028 and beyond
Recognising that there are over two years before 2027, and not all Explorer Scouts will take on the challenge of an Explorer Belt, it would be great to have a 2026 Expedition targeted specifically at the young people who will be too old to attend one of the above events. A visit to an established International Scout centre would offer a unique experience for this age group.
