Survival Skills - Beginner to Advanced

The County Bushcraft Team are organising four levels of bushcraft courses over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The Gloucestershire Scouts Bushcraft and Survival Skills Team would like to invite you to the Scout Survival Skills Activity Badge Course Weekend. The venue is in the Wilds of South Gloucestershire!
We are running two badge courses in Survival Skills

Scout Survival Skills Activity Badge

20 places are available.

Participants will need to be 12+

Explorers Survival Skills Activity Badge

12 places are available

Open to Explorers (14-18)

Young people taking part will complete the Survival Skills Scout Badge requirements. In addition, previous attendees have learned how to:

  • Use a life raft and practise sea survival techniques
  • Receive expert outdoor First Aid training from a paramedic
  • Explore wildlife management and learn deer preparation
  • Prepare and cook squirrel and fish for food
  • Apply basic physics by designing and setting food traps
  • Sample emergency rations and dehydrated supplies
  • Purify water, carve wood, and bake bread on hot stones
  • Identify and safely eat wild foods such as raw nettles
  • Signal for rescue using flares and signal mirrors
  • Master fire lighting through repeated challenges
  • Travel light, set up tarps and hammocks, and build camp furniture
  • Safely use an axe and saw to establish an expedition camp
  • Cook improvised meals such as “roadkill” or “sled dog” stew

Camp craft & Tracking course 
Push the boundaries of learning and build on existing knowledge. Open only to Scouts and Explorers who have completed their Scout or Explorer Survival Skills Badge.
Open only to Scouts (12+) and Explorers who have completed their Scout or Explorer Survival Skills Badge, the programme focuses on advanced camp craft techniques, tracking and observation skills, efficient camp setup, movement through terrain, and applying prior survival experience in more complex and demanding scenarios.

 

Guided NABO course

Open to Explorers who have attended previous courses- It’s the Ultimate Adventure Challenge!
