JOTA/JOTI is the largest Scouting event in the world with 1.8 million Scouts and Guides participating across 150+ countries. Scouts and Guides communicate with each other over the weekend using amateur radio and internet technology.

During the course you will:

• Exchange messages with Scouts and Guides around the world via amateur radio
  and the Scoutlink website.
• Learn how radio communications works.
• Take part in a wide game involving handheld radios and secret codes.
• Discover Morse Code, and learn how to transmit simple phrases.
• Learn about the difficulties communicating complicated information, and how to make it easier for that information to be sent using special codewords.
• Learn the phonetic alphabet.

The course is taking place at Eastcombe Scout and Guide HQ, Eastcombe, Stroud, GL6 7DY. The participants will be sleeping indoors in the main hall overnight, similar to many Scout HQ sleepover type camps.

The course costs £40 which covers;

• Overnight accommodation at Eastcombe Scout and Guide HQ
• Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast and lunch, plus snacks
• Materials required for the course
• Scout communicator badge
• JOTA/JOTI 2022 badge

Young Leaders

There is the opportunity for Explorers to take part in this course as Young Leaders supporting the programme delivery of the course. Interested Explorer Scouts should have completed or currently undertaking their Young Leader training, and be interested in radio
communications or STEM activities. A pre-event briefing and training session will be held for Young Leaders prior to the course at a date to be arranged.

A £10 contribution from Young Leaders is requested to cover the cost of meals, snacks, and badges.
